• 2012 Edition Out Now!

The tenth edition of AREU’s flagship publication: a guide to the terms, structures, mechanisms, and coordinating bodies critical to the Afghanistan relief effort, plus an extensive contacts directory. This edition also features profiles of all provinces and a new media contacts section.

  • Thirty Years of Conflict

A report by Antonio Giustozzi traces the structural factors driving anti-government mobilisation in Afghanistan through three decades of ideological war, factionalism and insurgency.

  • Women and Elections

A new synthesis report explores the dynamics of women's participation as candidates and voters in Afghanistan's 2005 and 2009/10 parliamentary and provincial council elections in Balkh, Bamiyan and Kabul provinces.

  • Legacies of Conflict Research

A peaceful country was desired by all and a negotiated end to the violence was widely seen as necessary but not easy to achieve. But for a just and durable settlement, it was also widely perceived that the legacies of past and present conflict will need to be addressed.

New AREU Office Location

AREU Communications

AREU’s Kabul office has moved to a new location, still in the Shahr-i-Naw area. As the map shows, it is most easily accessed from Haji Yaqoub Intersection. From there, take the main street toward Shaheed Tomb, past the Etisalat building, and turn onto the third road on the right. The AREU office is house number 649 on the right hand side, on the second block, directly opposite the UNESCO office. People are still welcome to visit us to collect AREU publications or access the AREU library collection. For any enquiries, please call +93 799 608 548 or email areu@areu.org.af
